The Nipissing Lakers ringette team and Lakers Athletics has named Stephen Hamilton the team's new head coach.

Hamilton has been involved in the sport for the past 33 years as an executive, player, coach and official.

He has officiated at 16 Provincial Championships, the Ontario Winter Games and at the Ringette Canada National Championships. He has coached house league and competitive rep with the West Ferris Ringette Association.  As such, the new bench boss has watched a lot of ringette and developed a strong technical background of the sport over the years.  Over the past 15 years his coaching efforts have been directed to Bulldog youth football and high school football.

Hamilton has a special affinity to Nipissing University. Not only is he a graduate of the Hons BBA program, he also had the honour of serving as the first president of the Nipissing University Students Union.

“I am privileged to be taking over a fine program from the coaches before me," Hamilton said in a release.

"I look forward to giving back to Nipissing University - an institution that provided me so much while I was a student here.”

The 2020-21 season will be the team's 11th season. Players must be full-time students at either Nipissing University or Canadore College in order to participate and tryouts are open to women hockey players who are interested in playing what is billed “the fastest game on ice.”

Tryouts for the 2020-21 ringette season will commence in September 2020. Dryland practices, on-ice practices and development games well structured with restrictions and guidelines as dictated by Nipissing University, Ringette Ontario, local health unit as well as provincial restrictions.
