Lakers move on!

Ranger with her second straight shutout

The Nipissing Lakers weren't going to let the Ryerson Rams shock them again at Memorial Gardens.

Maria Dominico scored just over 3 minutes into the game on the power play and that was all the Lakers offence needed as Danika Ranger made 18 saves as the Lakers blanked the Ryerson Rams 3-0 at Memorial Gardens Sunday night.

The local product made a number of key saves including a great blocker stop on a shorthanded breakaway in the second period.

For Ranger, it's her second straight shutout as she made 22 saves to backstop the Lakers to a 3-0 win over Ryerson in Toronto on Saturday to even the series 1-1.

The Lakers opened the series on Wednesday as they were stunned 4-2 at home by the visiting Rams.

Kaley Tienhaara scored late in the first period to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Sam Strassburger put the game out of reach for the Rams at 12:45 of the third period.

It's the fourth straight season the Lakers have made it to the second round of the OUA Varsity Women's Hockey playoffs.

The Lakers will now face the Queens Gaels in Round 2.

Game 1 goes Wednesday night in North Bay, with Games 2 and 3, if necessary, set for the weekend in Kingston.
