The Nipissing Lakers Varsity Men’s Hockey team has nowhere to go but down on the final week of the OUA regular season schedule.

The Lakers sit at 11-12-3 on the season good for the sixth spot in the OUA East.

However, the seventh place Concordia Stingers sit a mere one point behind the Lakers, but nine points behind the fifth place UOIT Ridgebacks.

The Lakers finish the regular season with a game in Kingston against the Queen’s Gaels tonight and then conclude the schedule Saturday night with a trip to Oshawa to take on the fifth place Ridgebacks.

“I think we would like to finish strong here, we’ve played better again the last four games,” noted Head Coach Mike McParland on the final weekend of his schedule.

“We have had an incredibly tough schedule since the Christmas break and we’ve just sort of found our winning ways again in the last few weeks so it would be real positive to end on a good note, preparing for our playoff game next Wednesday at home.”

The Lakers know that regardless of how they finish, they will face a tough test in the opening round of the playoffs against either the McGill Redmen or the Carleton Ravens.

Puck drop for Friday night's game is 7:30 p.m. at the Invista Centre in Kingston.
