The University of Toronto Blues scored twice in the first period and held on for a 3-1 win over the Nipissing Lakers in the opening round of the best-of-three series at Varsity arena in Toronto last night.

Hunter Mosher's unassisted marker in the second period was the long goal by the Lakers.

Kiyono Cox, Stephanie Ayres, and Jessica Robichaud each had singles for the Blues.

Lakers goalie Danika Ranger finished with 21 saves, while Nipissing fired 16 shots at the Toronto goaltender.

Game two of the series takes place on Friday night at Memorial Gardens. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.

If necessary, game three would take place back at Varsity Arena in Toronto on Sunday afternoon.
