Laker soccer teams eliminated (new)

It wasn’t a good weekend for the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Nipissing University.

Both teams were eliminated from playoff contention as they lost a pair of games to the University of Toronto Blues and the York University Lions in OUA action.

Last year, the two Nipissing teams qualified for their first-ever playoff action and hopes were high going into this season.

Sunday, York won the men’s game 5-1 and the women defeated the Lady Lakers 4-0.

Alagie Gaye had the lone for the Lakers.

David Calandra and Gianluca Saggese had two goals each for York and Michael Cipriani had the other.

April Noga and Jodie Williams had two goals each for York in the ladies game.

The Lakers conclude their season Saturday at the Education Centre Field against Sudbury Laurentian University Voyageurs. The men play at 1 p.m. followed by the women at 3 p.m.
