Lady Panthers sweep pair (new)

With the two wins, the Panthers jumped into a third place tie with Mohawk Mountaineers in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Associations Women’s Fastball League.

The Mountaineers are 3-1 and the Panthers 3-4.

The Panther bats came alive in the sweep as they collected 10 hits in the opener, a 7-4 win, and 11 in the nightcap, a 9-1 win.

Brittany Shannon was the winning pitcher in the first game and Leigh Anne Taylor picked up the win in the second game.

Shannon struck out five batters and gave up eight hits.

Taylor struck out two batters and gave up five hits. The Condors scored their only run in the seventh inning.

In the opener, Melissa Cross had a double and two singles and drove in one run for the winners.

Kerri Milne had two hits and scored twice.

Lynsey Snowball had a single and two RBIs. Krystal Chartrand, Taylor, Alicia Clouthier and Stephanie Bourassa had the other hits.

In the nightcap, Clouthier went on a hitting rampage with two doubles and a pair of singles and scored four runs in four trips to the plate.

Chartrand had three singles and two RBIs and was robbed of two other hits on two solid line drives, which were caught.

Milne, Cross, Bourassa and Shannon had the other hits. Shannon drove in three runs.

The Lady Panthers are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Sudbury to face Cambrian College Golden Shield. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
