Kovacs to bolster Lakers Midfield

Women's soccer head coach David Bitonti continues to add to his roster pool of players for 2013. The team announced today that Caroline Kovacs (Schomberg. ON) will be enrolling at Nipissing University for the upcoming fall semester.

"We're so excited to have Caroline join us at Nipissing," Bitonti said.

"She's a very talented and strong soccer player who will fit in wonderfully with our players both on and off the field. She will definitely compliment the style of game we want to play. I had a great opportunity to observe and talk with her during her recent visit and it confirmed what we always thought of her.”

Kovacs, a midfielder who was named MVP of her King City Secondary School team was also the team captain in 2011 and 2012. She plays her club soccer with the Aurora Stingers in the Central Girls Soccer League (CGSL).

In 12 regular season games she had 3 goals and lead her team to the CGSL Final. She captained the same Stingers team who had great team success in 2011-2012 winning the Robbie Showcase and the Ottawa Tournament.

The youngest of four siblings, Kovacs is excited to begin her career and School of Nursing studies at Nipissing University.

“The small school reminds me of my hometown,” she said.

“The campus is beautiful and very convenient. This university suits me better than any of the others I have visited. “

When asked about what she is hoping to achieve by joining the Lakers, Kovacs was quick to identify team goals as a main focus.

“I hope to help the team achieve the goals we set for ourselves in the coming season. I want to learn from the other team members and coaching staff, to improve myself as a player and person.”

Bitonti is hoping to announce more recruits to his squad in the upcoming weeks.

He is looking forward to the possibility of adding some exciting new talent at the defense and forward positions.
