Kirkey shines at Ontario Masters Nordic Championships

The Ontario Masters Nordic championships were held Feb 4-5-6th at the Parry Sound Georgian Nordic Cross Country Ski Club.
The Ontario Masters Nordic championships were held Feb 4-5-6th at the Parry Sound Georgian Nordic Cross Country Ski Club. More than 60 competitors ranging in age from 30 to 79 years old took part in the three day event that featured an 11 km classic race on Friday , A 22 classic race and skate race on Saturday and a 11 km skate race on Sunday.

The Ontario Masters was held in conjunction with the Annual Sounder and between the two races drew over 220 skiers.

Results for local skiers in their respective age classes for the 11 km. classic are: Perry Kirkey, 1st, 36:29; Tom Cook, 4th ,47:03; Bruce Nevison, 3rd ,43:44; Al Tough, 4th,51:20 and Linda Kirkey, 2nd , 54:25.

Results for the 22 km classic race are: Perry Kirkey, 1st, 1:13:40; Tom Cook, 4th, 1:30 03; Jean Cook, 3rd, 1:54:20; Emmanuelle Gunter, 1st, 1:50:34 and in the skate race Bruce Nevison, 2nd, 1:22:21.

Results for the 11 km skate race are: Perry Kirkey, 3rd, 33:33; Tom Cook, 4th, 39:22; Bruce Nevison, 1st, 34:14; Al Tough, 3rd, 38:53 and Emmanuelle Gunter,1st, 46:58.

In the Sounder Race, Molly Vandermeer placed 3rd in the Mini Midget 3 km classic race. Adrian Vandermeer was 5th in the Atom Boys 3 km classic race and Nell Vandermeer was 2nd in the 11km Juvenile Girls Classic race.
