Jr. Trappers stumble against Gold Miners

KIRKLAND LAKE, 0N - The North Bay Jr.
KIRKLAND LAKE, 0N - The North Bay Jr. Trappers built a 2-0 1st period lead but the Gold Miners scored 5 unanswered goals - 2 in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd - as the homeside handed the Trappers only their 3rd regulation loss in a 5-2 Gold Miners win at the Joe Mavrinac Community Centre on Saturday night.

Justin Schneeberger and Kyle Arenson scored in the opening period.

Jeremy Picard-Fiset, Tanner Lafrance, Joey Ftoma, Ethan Strong and Royce King scored for the Gold Miners.

The turning point was the Gold Miners equalizer that was scored late in the 2nd period by Lafrance when the Trappers had a 5 on 3 power play.

"An over confident hockey team was humbled tonight," said disappointed Jr. Trappers head coach Tom McCarthy.

"We simply stopped skating and moving the puck with intent and strength. Besides 4 goals going in on only 11 shots we didn't shoot the puck with any intent. We simply didn't put the puck on the net at all.

"We'll step back and look at ourselves again and then start all over Thursday with a fresh start at our goals!"

The Trappers hope to find the win column next Thursday, November 29th at Memorial Gardens when they take on the Elliot Lake Bobcats. Game time is 7 pm.
