KIRKLAND LAKE, ON - The North Bay Jr Trappers scored 3 times in the opening period and that's all they needed as they held on for a 3-1 win over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners here on Friday.

Brennen Dubchak, Trevor Hunt and Justin Schneeberger scored in the opening frame.

Greg Dodds made 29 stops for the win and was named the games first star.

Jr. Trappers head coach Tom MCCarthy was pleased with the way his squad played - especially in the final 20 when they limited the Gold Miners' quality chances.

"Tonight's victory was a solid defensive effort," said McCarthy.

"We played an aggressive first period that gave us a 3 goal lead that held up as enough scoring for the win. Giving up a goal in the second was from loosing a bit of our intensity. But our third was played with the utmost attention to detail. Not allowing the opposition to sustain any pressure or second chances. Tonight we played by the clock and played accordingly. Good road Win!"
