Jr. Trappers beat Nickel Barons to move alone into 1st

COPPER CLIFF, ON - Corbin Bean's second period power play goal held up as the winner as the North Bay Jr. Trappers defeated the Sudbury Nickel Barons 3-1 at the McCLelland arena on Wednesday.

The win moves the Trappers 2 points ahead of the Soo Thunderbirds for first place in the NOJHL standings.

Tait Seguin scored on the power play late in the first period to tie the game 1-1.

Trevor Hunt iced the win with a last minute empty net goal.

Beau Orser added a pair of assists on the power play for the Trappers.

Brennen Dubchak, who assisted on the empty netter, felt it was a great bounce back win after a disappointing 5-2 loss Sunday at home to Blind River.

"This win means a lot to our team as we now know first place is in our hands," said Dubchak.

"As well the way we won was crucial in how we held on to the lead and played simple Trapper hockey!"

Jr. Trappers head coach Tom McCarthy felt it was a great road with.
"It was definitely a good rebound from Sunday's loss. I felt we battled and competed for 60 minutes. It was also great to see Doddsy get his game back on track a big factor in tonight's win. It was a great team win and effort needing to be duplicated for the rematch Friday night!"

The Trappers will be back home on Friday night when they host the Sudbury Nickel Barons on Home Depot night at Memorial Gardens.
