The Niagara IceDogs scored five unanswered goals en route to a convincing 6-1 win over the visiting North Bay Battalion in OHL action on Friday night in St. Catharines.

Kyle Langdon opened the scoring for the IceDogs beating Battalion starter Christian Purboo at the 6:18 mark of the opening frame.

The game stayed that way until the latter stages of the period when Justin Brazeau netted his 14th of the campaign at the 19:31 mark.

Luke Burghardt and Cam Dineen recorded assists on the first period goal.

The second period the IceDogs scored three times as Philip Tomasino recorded his second of the season at 10:14.

Kirill Maksimov made it 3-1 less than three minutes later.

Oliver Castleman made it 4-1 as it was the IceDogs who tallied in the last minute of the second period.

Ben Jones put the game out of reach when he beat Purboo to make it 5-1 only 36 seconds into the third period.

Johnny Corneil rounded out the scoring with his fifth of the season at 6:08.

The sent starter Christian Purboo to the showers where he was replaced by Julian Sime who stopped all five shots he faced in relief.

Purboo left the game after stopping 15 of the 21 shots he faced in the loss.

The loss drops the Battalion record to 6-13-3 on the season.

The Troops are now winless in their past six games 0-5-1 with their only point coming in Thursday night's OT loss at the hands of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

The Battalion head back up north on Sunday for a matinee against the rival Sudbury Wolves.  The Wolves hold a three-point lead over the Battalion in the Central Division race, with the Troops having two games in hand.
