Ice Boltz have solid showing at Stoney Creek Showcase

Alamos Gold Midget AA Ice Boltz competed with the top teams at the Stoney Creek Showcase this past weekend.

The Midget AA Ice Boltz sported a 3-1-1 record in the 64 team event.

Friday Morning the team opened up with a hard fought tie against one of the top teams Oakville Hornets 1-1.

Friday afternoon the Boltz came out fast and scored quickly and continued to dominate the US based team Washington Pride in a convincing 10-0 win. 

Saturday morning the Boltz started slow but found their game in the third as they dropped the Ancaster Avalanche 3-1.

Up next was another American team Buffalo Regals being the fourth game in two days was evident but the girls continued to roll with a 3-2 overtime win.

The Boltz placed 10th after the round robin games in the 64-team field placing them in the Bronze semis Sunday morning.

The Scarborough Sharks who also had a 3-1 record was up next. Sunday's  game was a tough test for the young team, Boltz scoring first only to see the Sharks tie the game late in the first. The Sharks would score the only goal of the second and hang on for a 2-1 victory.

The coaching staff was extremely pleased with the effort the girls displayed this past weekend, as the local squad one of the youngest teams in the tournament.

This tournament was won by the North Bay Ice Boltz last season but the majority of the players have moved on to junior this year.

Leading the way for the Boltz this season will be provided by 4 returning players, Third-year players Cassie Rich, Ashley Ferrante and second-year players Catherine Heroux, Cailen Hanzlik.

The team will have 14 rookies to play Midget AA this season, Ashley Robitaille and Alexya Racicot join the team from Timmins.

Mackenzie McMahon comes from the Midget A team, The Boltz will have eight 2002 born players from the Bantam AA program. Michaela Presseault, Alexie Villeneuve, Alex Murmilo, Tianna Maisonneuve, Brianna Legros, Jayden Denomme, Charley Wing and Madison Desmarais.

Rounding out the roster will be three 2003 players who played for the Bantam AA team last season, Lanie Guimond, Eryn Wolfe, Emily Gravelle.

Next up for the Midget AA Ice Boltz will be LLFHL league play that begins in October.
