Huard wins OUA title with Gryphons

The one that got away.

The one that got away.  Nick Huard, who was released back to junior after attending the Nipissing Lakers camp in 2011, was the playoff hero as the Guelph Gryphons captured an OUA championship

North Bay's Nick Huard scored twice including the game winner as he led the Guelph Gryphons to a 4-0 win over the UQTR Patriotes to win the 104th Queen's Cup as OUA Varsity Men's Hockey Champions on Saturday night.

Just 9 seconds after the Gryphons had made it 3-0 over the Pats, Huard scored his second goal of the night, as his wrist shot trickled through the five-hole of goalie Francis Desrosiers and in to make it 4-0 Gryphons with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

The 4-0 win marked the eighth provincial title in program history and first since 1997.

Both the Gryphons and the UQTR Patriotes will now travel to Halifax for the CIS Championships (March 12-15). The seedings and scheduling for the CIS Championship tournament will be announced early in the week.

Huard led the Gryphons in scoring this season with 11 goals and 17 assists, good for 28 points.  The OUA Second Team All-Star also led the team in scoring in 2013-14.
