North Bay’s Nathan Hewitt will be leaving the NOJHL’s Elliot Lake Wildcats for the OUA.

Hewitt will be a new assistant coach with a Southern Ontario based OUA hockey team what will be making the official announcement in early August.

Hewitt, spent the past two years as head coach of the Wildcats as well as being named head coach for Team NOJHL last fall at the Easter Canada Cup Challenge in Cornwall.

“I'd like to say a huge thank you the Elliot Lake Wildcats and the folks at the NOJHL for an amazing two years,” Hewitt stated.

“I'm also excited to be moving to the CIS. Having played in the league, I've always thought it would be nice to coach there one day. I feel very honoured to have the opportunity to do that now,” added Hewitt who played for the first Nipissing Lakers Men’s team in 2009-10.

Hewitt led the Wildcats to a pair of winning seasons with a combined record of 73 wins, 23 losses, six overtime losses, and four ties.

The Wildcats organization will miss their young 30-year-old coach.

“Nathan was an integral part of the Wildcat organization, which in two short years positioned our team as one of the top squads in the NOJHL and earned us national recognition,” stated Elliot Lake team president Howard Hennessey.

“Nathan will be sadly missed by fans and supporters in Wildcat Country,” added Hennessey.

“This is a major step forward in Nathan’s coaching career and the Wildcats organization wishes him much success.”

With Hewitt’s departure, the Elliot Lake Wildcats have hired former Iroquois Falls Eskis bench boss Corey Bricknell as their new head coach.
