Great results for locals at Ontario Powerlifting Championships

North Bay Athletes Jennifer McConnell and Kim Crumpton can add 2019 Provincial Bench Press Champion to their resumes as they dominated their respective age groups this past weekend at the 2019 Classic Ontario Provincial Powerlifting Championships held in Bowmanville, Ontario November 1 to 3.  

McConnell won gold in the 63 kg Open Women’s Division, finishing with an 80 kg bench press. 

Crumpton took gold in the 57 kg Master 3 Women’s Division with a 55 kg bench press. 

Both athletes then moved on to compete in the Classic 3-Lift Competition where McConnell’s best lifts were squat 115 kg,  bench press 77.5 kg and deadlift 127.kg. finishing 13th in the heavily contested 63 kg open category. 

Crumpton took her second gold of the Meet with a 75 kg squat, 52.5 kg bench press, and a 125 kg deadlift, capping off a best-ever performance to set a new Provincial and Canadian National “Total” Record of 252.5 kg. 

Both athletes attained the Bench Press and 3-Lift National Qualifying Scores at this Meet that allows them to move on to the next level. 

McConnell now sets her sights on the March 2020 National Powerlifting Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Crumpton under the watchful eye of Coach Chris Merkley will start preparing for the 2020 World Classic Master Championships to be held in Sun City, South Africa, April 26 - May 3.
