Golf courses starting to open this weekend

'Everyone seems to have wintered really well,'

At least one North Bay area golf course has confirmed to BayToday.ca that it’s opening this upcoming weekend.

Osprey Links in Callander will be operating the back nine starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Jeff Rogerson, the Osprey Links GM and Club Pro says Mother Nature was very good to the golf courses in the north this spring.

“Everyone seems to have wintered really well,” stated Rogerson about what he’s heard about the conditions at other area golf courses.

“It was a good winter for sure and the snow left early, there was minimal flooding, we’ve had lots of time for the turf to get exposed, that’s been great.  But it’s certainly been cooler and damper then we’d like to see it but again it’s April and April showers bring May flowers so we are hoping for the best.”

Rogerson says that doesn’t mean a bout of frost won’t cause another setback but he’s hoping this is the start of a great new golf season in the region.

Highview Golf Course in Powassan is expected to open on April 28th.
