Former Scollard runner shining in U.S. college

A former St. Joseph's Scollard Hall athlete is making a name for herself at the University of Richmond (Virginia). Sophomore Amanda Russell earned the 2004 Richmond Women's MVP award to cap a brilliant second season.
A former St. Joseph's Scollard Hall athlete is making a name for herself at the University of Richmond (Virginia).

Sophomore Amanda Russell earned the 2004 Richmond Women's MVP award to cap a brilliant second season. The North Bay native led her cross country team in all seven of their events in 2004. She was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week four times including a string of three-straight from Sept. 20-Oct. 4. Russell recorded four Top-5 finishes and two individual wins, including a meet record at the Maymont XC Festival in a 5K time of 17:23.0, leading the U of R Spiders to the team title. She went on to place third at the Atlantic 10 Championships earning First Team All-Conference honors. She also garnered two Top-25 finishes and came in 61st at the top race of the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.

Her best 6K time of 20:58.7 came at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Greenville, N.C., where she placed 22nd to earn All-Region honors.
