It was a beautiful day for football at the Trojan Alumni Complex Thursday as the West Ferris Trojans defeated the Algonquin Barons 35-19 to kick off the NDA junior football season.

The Trojans opened the scoring with a run from Ashton Stanley who scored three times on the day following the blocks of Caedan Carriere and his offensive line.

Down 21 points in the late first half, the Jr. Barons did not give up as Ben Menard found pay dirt. The Barons missed the extra point.

The halftime score was Trojans 21 Barons 6.

The Trojans received the second half kickoff and marched down the field.

Caedan Carriere pounded the ball into the end zone with a run up the middle from the four-yard line.

The Barons responded as the very speedy Raphael Dohound ran a jet sweep around the left edge. Dohound converted the touchdown.

Late in the game, Ethan Currie grabbed a pass from QB Ethan Estabrooks and ran it up the sideline for a long touchdown.

Ethan Estabrooks was 6-6 on the day in a great debut performance.

Trojans’ Carson Cleator was 5 for 5 on extra point attempts. The Barons’ Raphael Dohound ran in another sweep in the late going. Final score Trojans 35 Barons 19.

Meantime in other Jr Football action, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall outlasted the Franco-Cite Patriotes 54-40 in a high-scoring affair.
