North Bay's Lucas Edmonds has now accepted a D1 scholarship to U Mass Minutemen ranked 22nd in NCAA official rankings D1 hockey.

Edmonds, who was selected in the 7th round of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection by the Kingston Frontenacs, is currently playing in junior hockey Sweden with Karlskrona.

"I am excited to announce my commitment to play for the Minutemen," said Edmonds on Twitter.

"I can't wait to get started."

The former East Nipissing Viper is a dual Swedish-Canadian citizen, is the son of former North Bay Skyhawks on European pro coach Randy Edmonds.

It’s been an exciting past few weeks for Edmonds, as not only did he receive the D 1 commitment for 2019, he is also vying for a spot on Sweden’s Under-17 team which is participating in the U17 Five Nations tourney in Finland in February.

Edmonds adds to an impressive NCAA Division 1 hockey list coming out of North Bay recently.

Colton Point is in his sophomore year with Colgate, goalie Nate McDonald committed to Cornell for the fall of 2018, and female goaltender Loryn Porter is playing for the University of Maine.
