Paced by a pair of Caden Dubreuil markers, including the eventual game-winner, the Powassan Voodoos went on to defeat the French River Rapids 5-1 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Noelville Arena.

The visiting Voodoos were quick to strike in this one with Dubreuil snapping a shot past Rapids’ netminder Carter Vicente from a sharp angle, just 2:19 into the match-up.

Coming back to tie it nearly nine minutes into the second period, French River’s Nolan Masson worked his way free in the left circle and wired a chance by Powassan’s Austin Seibel.

Going ahead once more, Dubreuil notched another for the visitors as he pumped a rising short-side effort over the shoulder on Vicente for a man advantage effort at 14:16.

The Voodoos then went up by two when Nathan Pelletier went to the net and finished off a chance from in close to give them a 3-1 lead after two.

In the final frame, Powassan added to their edge early on a Riley Misa effort as he completed an Anthony Boyes feed at 1:41.

They then saw Jeremy Schoenborn secure the result deep in regulation as he was sent in alone on a breakaway and made no mistake with a crisp attempt from the left wing to round out the scoring.

Voodoos goaltender Austin Seibel, who had his first NOJHL shutout in his last visit to Noelville in October, made 34 saves in the win and was named the game's second star.

With the outcome, the Voodoos move to 12-10-0-3 and with the loss, the Rapids fall to 8-16-1-2.

The Voodoos are back on home ice for a rare Sunday night home game as they host the visiting Espanola Paper Kings. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
