Daly nets winner in OT

SUDBURY — Nathan Daly’s goal at 9:52 of the first overtime session gave the North Bay Skyhawks a 7-6 victory over the Sudbury Northern Wolves Wednesday at the Countryside Arena.

SUDBURY — Nathan Daly’s goal at 9:52 of the first overtime session gave the North Bay Skyhawks a 7-6 victory over the Sudbury Northern Wolves Wednesday at the Countryside Arena.

The Skyhawks now lead the best of seven Eastern Division final 3-1 and can finish their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League series with a win tonight at Memorial Gardens. Game time is 7 p.m.

The score was tied 6-6 after two periods and remained that way until Daly’s winner.

Goaltender Martin Perreault replaced Chris Hardill for the Skyhawks in the second period with his team trailing 6-4 and played flawlessly the rest of the way, stopping all 13 shots he faced.

Two of the saves were on breakaways by Brian McGarry.

North Bay’s Yan Turcotte and Sudbury’s Tyler Mackenzie exchanged first period goals and the clubs split 10 goals in the second period.

Cory McGillis scored twice for the Wolves with Jesse Graham, Kyle Doherty and Andrew Harrison adding single markers for Sudbury.

Josh Merson, Noel Lortie, Pat Power, David Cappadocia and Daly, with his first of the game, accounted for the North Bay scoring.

Sudbury netminder Paul Pidutti kicked out 30 shots between the pipes.
