CT33 Thunderbirds swimmers shine at Ontario Spring AA Champs

It's been a busy last few weeks for Thunderbirds swimmers of all ages.

It's been a busy last few weeks for Thunderbirds swimmers of all ages. 

Seven swimmers and coach Hillar Lainevool of the CT33 Thunderbird Swim team participated in the 2018 Ontario Spring AA Champs hosted by the Markham Aquatic Club March 8-11th at the Markham Pan Am Pool.  This is a long course Championship event sanctioned by Swim Ontario. 

The CT33 Thunderbird team received the Best Performing Team Award at this event for their outstanding effort.  Jesse Hammond, 17, competed in six events earning first-place finishes in the finals for the 400 metre Medley, 100m Fly, 200m Back and the 200m Medley events.  Hammond also broke three club records with his performance in the 100m and 200m Back events as well as the 400m Medley.  Evan Kilroy, 16, earned the Highest Points award in his age category with first-place finishes in the 100m Breast and 200m Medley and earned a new club record with his performance in the 400m Free. 

Ayden Michaud, 14, placed first in the 200m Fly event while Jenna Wall, 14 captured first place in the 200m Breast which also earned her a qualifying time for the 2018 Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships in April. Michael Denomme, 18, and Sam Denomme, 14, both landed second place finishes in their respective 100m  Breast events.  Cole Paralovos, 16, delivered strong performances which resulted in personal best times in the 50m and 100m Free events.  

Toronto, ON – Two CT33 Thunderbird team members competed in the 2018 Ontario Spring Provincial Championships held at the Etobicoke Olympium Pool March 1st to 4th 2018.  This event was hosted by the Etobicoke Swim Club.  

Swimmers Evan Kilroy, 16, and Trael Daly Stevens, 15, qualified for this event earlier in the season and did not disappoint.  

Kilroy’s performances in the 100m and 200m breastroke earned him his first Canadian National qualifying times.  Evan achieved the time standard for both the Eastern National Championships and The Canadian Junior National Championships. Evan also secured team records in the 100m and 200m Breast events.

Daly Steven’s 200m Medley time earned him his first Junior National Qualifying time for the season, in addition, he added qualifying times for the Easter National Championships with his results in the 200m Freestyle, 100m and 200m Breastroke events. 

Trael achieved four club records in the 100m and 200m Freestyle, 200m Medley and 200m Back events.  

T-Bird in Nepean

CT33 Thunderbird swimmer Riley Periard, 13, competed at the 2018 Ontario Winter Festivals held at the Nepean Sportsplex.  This short course event draws in qualified swimmers in the 13 & under age category.  Periard put down her best effort in four events over the course of two days.  

T-Birds Top Fish 

Four Thunderbird swimmers competed at the Top Fish #2 Developmental meet February 25th at the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre.  This event was hosted by the Valley East Waves and draws in developing swimmers, ages 12 and under,  from across the northeast region.  

Albert Bouley, 11, placed first in all five of his events, posting personal best times in the 100m Breast and 100m Back events. 

Madilyn Reaume, 11, also captured first place finishes in all events with a personal best time in the 100m Back.

Abigail Betsill, 11, earned top-three finishes in all events with personal best times recorded in the 100m Free, 50m Breast and 100m Breast.

Isabella Trottier, 9, also placed in the top three with personal best times in the 100m Breast and 100m Free.  

The team continues to train during the March Break, preparing for the NEOR #4 Meet March 24th and 25th, hosted by the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club and the North Bay Invitational Meet April 13-15, hosted by the North Bay Y Titans.

North Bay coaches Pierre Simard, Penny Lecour, Hillar Lainevool and Jennifer Piper said they were pleased with the results from all meets and the success and growth of all swimmers.
