Colton Point did not get his first NHL start but he did come in relief and win his first NHL game last night.

The North Bay native came in relief of starter Anton Khudobin and made 12 saves as the Dallas Stars went on to a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wild at the Excel Energy Centre in St. Paul, Minnesota last night.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. I am super happy that we won and obviously that is the main thing,” Point told reporters post game about the pre-season win.

“I am happy the way I played, so all in all I felt good and I was super excited out there and I am looking forward to getting the season going.”

The Stars 2016 5th round pick signed with the big club this off-season, was beaten in the second period on a redirected shot by Parise in his NHL debut, but he was perfect the rest of the way.

“Obviously I would have loved to have that one but in the end it was a good play, it was like a one out of 10 puck,” Point explained.

“In goaltending you just have to pick up and move on and I feel I did that pretty well and did not let it affect the rest of my game.”

Point is trying to enjoy the time with the Stars as he is expected to start the season in either the AHL (Texas Stars) or the ECHL (Idaho Steelheads) with one of the Stars affiliate teams.

The 20-year-old says he is continuing to work on the adjustment from college hockey to the NHL.

“There are a lot of big bodies in the NHL and getting used to the traffic was something I had to do in camp and I feel I am still working on it, that being said, I think I have been adjusting pretty well,” said Point.
