The 2012 Coach4Food Program broke through the 100,000-pound mark on Sunday, the last day for donations.

It was a combined effort as food and financial donations came through from Michael Birnie Law Firm, U-Need-A-Cab, Dennis Lathem, Daniel Weber, The Green Store, former NHLer Bill McDougall, who played for Coach4Food Founder Tom Hedican in Switzerland, and the Tim Horton's Hockey for Beginners program also pitched in.

The donations added 1,702 pounds to the previous total, pushing this year's program over the six-figure mark to 100,987.

"I am absolutely thrilled with this," said Hedican.

"This city is unreal. I never thought we would see 100,000 again but the coaches, players, parents, my staff, and this fantastic community spoke loudly by their actions. It was a lot of work and most of it done by those people. There are no words to express my gratitude to everyone involved. The response this year was the best I have ever seen in the seven years we have run this program."

Coach4Food was inspired by Hedican's idol, rock star Bruce Springsteen, and his work with food banks around the world. Hedican, a professional goaltending consultant, runs practices for minor hockey teams using NHL and European skill drills for teams which do food drives for the North Bay Food Bank.
