Joanne Wallace's team OCS, sponsored by Dr. Tom Wallace Orthopedic Consulting Service, kicked off the 2012 Coach4Food program with a twist. Her team does not play on the ice, but rather a volleyball court.
Wallace won an hour with Coach4Food Founder Tom Hedican at the Food Bank Blue Jean Ball in a raffle, and wanted a volleyball practice for her women's team in exchange for a food drive.
Hedican secured volleyball drills from local coach John Jeffries and Canadian National team coach Scott Koskie, and the women were put through a spirited practice and in return brought in 1,149 pounds for the Coach4Food program.
Hedican, a professional goaltending consultant, will run practices using NHL and European skill drills through December for minor hockey teams willing to do a food drive for the North Bay Food Bank.
