The Powassan Voodoos picked up a hat trick and two assists from rookie Parker Bowman to help them defeat the French River Rapids 9-2 Wednesday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Noelville Arena to round out the regular season for both teams.

Bowman put the Voodoos in flight 2:44 into the first period before William Michaud notched his 11th of the season for French River four minutes later.

Powassan regained the lead at 12:47 when Tyson Gilmour struck shorthanded as they took a 2-1 lead into the second stanza.

The lone tally of that session came late in the frame when Bo Peltier picked up his first of 2016-17 with 50 seconds remaining.  Peltier’s first tally of the season ironically came against his younger brother Evan who started for the Rapids.

The visitors then blew it open in the third by scoring six times, including two from Bowman.

Tye Lindeman, Andy Baker’s league-leading 45th, Dylan D’Agostino and Austin Ramirez accounted for the other Voodoos’ goals in the period while Christian Gaudreau picked up the Rapids’ final tally of the season.

Nate McDonald, who committed to Niagara University earlier this week, made 20 saves to record the win for the Voodoos which was his 30th of the season.

Evan Peltier started for French River and suffered the loss allowing six against on 46 shots and Simon Wood stopped eight of 11 in 14 and a half minutes of relief.

The Voodoos will have the weekend off as they wait for the winner of a best-of-three Eastern Conference quarterfinal between the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and the Iroquois Falls Eskis.

That series is expected to start on the March 17th to 19th weekend.
