Big medal haul for CT33 Thunderbirds in Sudbury

A total of 22 medals were handed out to deserving Thunderbirds.

The CT33 Thunderbirds swim team delivered their best at the North Eastern Ontario Region (NEOR #4) developmental swim meet hosted by the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club this past weekend.

The first long course event of the season was held at the Jeno Tihanyi Olympic Gold Pool located on the campus of Laurentian University in Sudbury.

NEOR #4 is a long course competition providing developmental opportunities for swimmers across the northeast region.

A total of 22 medals were handed out to deserving Thunderbirds. Trael Daly Stevens (14) led the medal count with five gold medals, breaking the club record in the 400 metre Individual Medley event. Riley Periard (12) captured 4 gold medals and one bronze medal in her events along with recording personal best times in all five events. Timothy Corbeil (11) went home with a gold medal in the 50 metre back stroke, breaking a club record. Cole Paralovos (15) broke two club records in the 100 metre and 200 metre breast stroke events, taking home a silver medal for his 200 metre breast stroke performance.

Other excelling to top three placements were Zackary Boucher (9), Samuel Denomme (13), Jesse Hammond (16), Evan Kilroy (15), Sheldon Kilroy (13), Gavin Wall (11), Sydney Doidge (12) and Peyton Paralovos (11).

Thunderbird swimmers with top 10 finishes were Michael Denomme (16), Myles Denomme (10), Noah Papatheodorou (13), Drew Sinclair (12), Abigail Betsill(10), Leah Chirico (14), Melody Farrell (12), Grace Hong (11), Annika Lainevool (12), Emilia Lainevool (13), Kiara Palavicino (13), Jaiden Paralovos (13), Ryleigh Paralovos (9), Madeline Tanne r(15) and Jenna Wall (13).

Personal best times were recorded by all Thunderbird team members at the event with special mention to Rachelle Ouellette (13) achieving personal best times in four events. This was the first long course event for both Sydney Laughren (10) and Zackary Boucher (9).

The Thunderbirds are heading to the Petawawa Vimy Ridge Invitational hosted by the Petawawa Predators Swim Club on April 1st 2017.

North Bay coaches Pierre Simard, Penny Lecour, Hillar Lainevool and Jennifer Piper said they were pleased with the results from the meet and the success and growth of all swimmers.
