Another North Bay Battalion is heading to the American Hockey League.

Battalion forward Brett McKenzie is joining the Utica Comets on an amateur tryout.

The 20-year-old McKenzie, played in 67 regular season games ranking first on the team in goals (29) assists (38) and points (67).

The Vars, Ontario product totalled 175 points (79-96-175) and 166 penalty minutes in 264 career regular season games in the OHL, all with North Bay.

The Comets are the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks who drafted McKenzie in the 7th round, 194th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

McKenzie, who could return to the Troops in one of the three overage spots next year, has his heart set on playing pro next season.

“I’d like to play in the NHL next year, that’s the goal,” said McKenzie Monday when the players cleaned out their lockers and took part in exit interviews with the coaching staff.

“I just have to have a good training camp and show what I can do, I just need to get stronger and faster when I go to Utica.”
