The North Bay Battalion went into a tough barn and came out with two points as they defeated the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 3-1 at the Essar Centre on Saturday night.
Battalion import Max Kislinger got the Battalion on the board in the second period with an unassisted tally at 4:24 of the middle stanza.
Then rookie Cam Dineen notched his first OHL goal just over two minutes later to stake the visiting Battalion to a 2-0 lead.
The game stayed that way until 15:37 into the third period as Tim Gettinger notched his third of the campaign to cut the lead in half to 2-1.
Zach Bratina sealed the big road win with an empty netter at 19:07 as newcomer Brett Hargrave registered his first point with the Battalion.
Jake Smith earned the win turning away 32 of the 33 Greyhounds shots that he faced.
While Battalion Head Coach Stan Butler was pleased with the win, he knows there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.
"We're a bad team that got a little better tonight,” Butler told SooToday.com’s Brad Coccimiglio during the post-game media scrum.
“We’re slowly getting better. For about 80% of the game we played exactly how we wanted to play.”
The win gives the Battalion a 2-3 record on the season.
The Battalion will be back home on Monday afternoon as they host the much improved Mississauga Steelheads. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
