The North Bay Battalion was unable to carry over the momentum from a five-goal third period Thursday night at home against the Ottawa 67’s.

That game the power surge led to an 8-5 home win.

On Friday night in Guelph, the Storm built a 3-0 lead into the third period and held on for a 5-2 win over the Battalion.

Giovani Smith scored twice for the Storm and singles went to Nate Schnarr, Cedric Ralph and Matt Hotchkiss.

Adam Thilander and Brett Hargrave scored for the Troops in the third period.

Thilander, with his second goal in as many games, netted a power play marker at 6:07 of the third to cut the Storm lead to 3-1.

But that was the only power play marker for the Troops who had a five-minute power play early in the third thanks to a five-minute slew footing call against the Storm’s Albert Michnac.

Ralph stretched that lead to 4-1 with a goal at 14:52.

Hargrave responded less than a minute later to make it 4-2 near the 16 minute mark of the final frame.

Hotchkiss scored in the final minute with the Troops net empty to seal the win.

Brent Moran took the loss in goal as he made 25 saves.

The Troops fall to 5-6 on the season, falling to 3-2 road record.

The Troops are back on the ice Saturday night as they travel to Hamilton to take on the Bulldogs.

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. That game can be seen on CogecoTV cable 700 or on the radio at Country 600 CKAT.
