Battalion looking for another solid home effort tonight against Generals

“There’s still a long way to go, but we were definitely better this past weekend than we have been on weekends in the past.”

The North Bay Battalion look to go over the .500 mark tonight when they face the visiting Oshawa Generals who sit in second spot in the Eastern Division with a 7-5 record.

The Troops are fresh off an exciting 3-2 come-from-behind overtime victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs who handled the Troops on home ice two Thursday’s ago in a 7-4 Bulldogs victory.

The Battalion won two of three last week which included an 8-5 barnburner victory for the home side last Thursday against the Ottawa 67’s.

“I thought we were better on the weekend,” said Butler during Tuesday’s media conference.

“There’s still a long way to go, but we were definitely better this past weekend than we have been on weekends in the past.”

Butler knows the Generals will be tough tonight but he’s more concerned about focusing on what his team has to do to be successful.

“The conference will sort itself out when teams start playing the way they’re going to play on a more consistent basis, so right now I’m focused on how I can make our team better, by playing guys with different guys,” said Butler.

The Battalion will be down another forward as Adam McMaster is heading west to play at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Sault Ste. Marie this week.

He left Monday for Sault Ste. Marie to join Canada Black, one of three Canadian entries in the eight-team World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, scheduled Oct. 30 to Nov. 5. McMaster, who has one goal and five assists for six points in 11 games, was North Bay’s first-round pick in the OHL Priority Selection last April 9.

The Troops continue to be led offensively by both Brett McKenzie and Brett Hargrave as the two Brett’s lead the team in scoring with eight goals each.

It’s an exciting breakout for Hargrave whose career high in an OHL season is 10.

Meantime McKenzie will be playing his first game tonight since being named to Team OHL for the Canada-Russia Subway series which will be making a stop in North Bay on November 10th.

After tonights home game, the Troops hit the road for a Saturday night visit to Windsor where they will face Mike Baird and the Spitfires.

Then on Sunday they will take on Troy Lajeunesse and the Sarnia Sting for a matinee at the Michigan-Ontario border city.
