The North Bay Battalion was shut out in its first preseason contest as the Troops fell 3-0 at the hands of the Saginaw Spirit. 

The Battalion is in Kitchener taking part in the pre-season showcase event.  

Battalion 2nd round pick Joe Vrbetic took the loss in goal. 

DJ Buskeker scored the game-winner in the late stages of the first period for the Spirit. 

Brady Gilmour and Bode Wilde added insurance markers in the second period to round out the scoring. 

Battalion rookies Pacey Schlueting, David Maier, Egor Postnov, Harrison Caines, Cameron Peters, Joe Vrbetic and Kyle Jackson all made their OHL debuts today. 

The Troops are back in action Saturday afternoon as they take in the QMJHL's Moncton Wildcats.  Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. at the Kitchener Auditorium.  

The Battalion will finish off the weekend with a Sunday matinee against the host Kitchener Rangers.
