The North Bay Atom B Ice Boltz travelled south this past weekend to take part in the 32nd Annual Peterborough Ice Kats Hockey tournament.

In game one Friday afternoon, the Boltz showed the effects of a four hour drive tying the Nepean C Wildcats 0-0. AJ St Denis had the shut out.

In game two Friday night the Boltz took on the Durham West B Lightning and came away with a 4-1 victory. Dez Guindon (2) , Kirsten Burke and Hannah Desrosiers
were the goal scorers.

In game three Saturday morning, the Boltz played to another 0-0 tie, this time with the Aurora B Panthers. AJ St Denis recorded her second shut out of the tournament.

Saturday night the Boltz faced off against the Sudbury Lady C Wolves in semi final action. The Boltz controlled the plat for most of the game but couldn't get the puck by the Sudbury net minder.

The teams played three scoreless periods sending the game to overtime. A five minute 4 on 4 OT still could not produce a winner, even though the Boltz had several glorious chances.

The teams then moved to their benches for the game to be decided via a shoot out. The Boltz first two shooters were stopped as were the Wolves first two shooters.

The drama then built for the 3rd and final shooter from each team to take their shot. Gabby Russo shut the door on the Lady Wolves shooter and a mere second or two later Matsyn Ferreira slid home the winner sending the Boltz to the gold medal game.

Sunday afternoons gold medal game was a frustrating one for the Ice Boltz.

The Boltz dominated the play from the opening face off spending the first 7:00 minutes of the period playing deep in the Brampton Canadettes zone. However, they could not find the back of the net. The game balanced out a little, but the Ice Boltz still were controlling the play and spending most of it in Brampton's zone.

The Canadettes struck first off a shot off of a face off to take a 1-0 lead mid way through the second period. Minutes later Brampton shot home a rebound to take a 2-0 lead.

The Boltz bounced back with just over a minute remaining in the second period, Tori Gravelle stole the puck and Matsyn Ferreira scored to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Boltz came out in the third period and once again dominated zone time and shots , but could not find the back of the net. Several puck grazed posts and slid through the crease as the Boltz put the pressure on, but it was not to be on this day.

The final score was 2-1 for the Canadettes.

Matsyn Ferreira was selected as the Ice Boltz player of the game.

The coaching staff is extremely proud of the way the girls played the entire weekend, the team is on the right track to be playing its best hockey when it needs to.
