The North Bay Athletics dropped a three-game series against Sudbury Lockerby Confectionery on the weekend.

After losing 6-1 Saturday morning, North Bay put up a stronger game and lost 6-4 Saturday night before being outscored 9-2 Sunday morning in Northern Ontario Bantam Hockey League action.

“There were a lot of positives for us,” Athletics head coach Glenn Cundari said. “The kids are learning tons and tons of brand new stuff. They are working hard in practice and I know we will win our share of games this season.”

Cundari’s squad has gone against Sudbury and powerhouse Soo Greyhounds in their recent games, no easy task.

“No excuses, but it’s tough playing those teams,’ Cundari said. “But you know what, our guys are battling through it and it will bode well for them later in the season.”

The A’s host Onaping Falls in a three-game series this coming weekend.

“We’ve played them tough. Onaping has a good team, don’t get me wrong. But we tied them in an exhibition match and beat them by one goal,” Cundari said.

“The guys are upbeat in the dressing room. We’ve talked plenty about the dynamics of winning and losing and all of that other team stuff. It’s not about coming to the rink, getting frustrated and going home.”

P. J. Taus had two goals for Sudbury Saturday night with Vern Cooper, Luc Comtois, Kyle Tarini and Craig Laliberte adding the others.

Pierre Seguin, Joel Senecal, Matt Pepin and Stephan Gunner replied for the Athletics.

Jeremy Roy was in goal for the Athletics and Shawn Sirman handled the netminding duties for Sudbury.

Tarini, Taus, Zach McGillis and Laliberte had two goals apiece Sunday with Comtois adding one.

Justin Brear and Stephan Gunner scored for North Bay.

Dylan Marshall was in nets for North Bay and his counterpart was Alain Valiquette.
