SEATBELT INITIATIVE / OPERATION IMPACT (North Bay, ON) For the week of September 26th to October 11th, 2003, OPP in North Bay, Mattawa and Powassan checked 10,877 vehicles for the fall seatbelt initiative. Forty-five seatbelt charges were laid.

For the week of September 26th to October 11th, 2003, OPP in North Bay, Mattawa and Powassan checked 10,877 vehicles for the fall seatbelt initiative.

Forty-five seatbelt charges were laid. Of the number of vehicles checked, 143 vehicles were checked for child seats. They were all in compliance.

In Operation Impact, a total of 52 traffic related moving violations charges were given out by OPP in North Bay, Mattawa and Powassan.
The charges include speeding, hazardous moving violations and seatbelts.
There were eight motor vehicle collisions over the weekend. Three persons were injured in three separate motor vehicle collisions.

One person was sent to hospital yesterday (Monday October 13th, 2003) in a two car motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Rutherglen, Ontario.
Charges are pending in that matter.

The other two persons injured received minimal injuries. This initiative began on Friday October 11th, 2003 and continued throughout the Thanksgiving Weekend.
