Traffic complaint leads to impaired charge

On January 22, 2016, at approximately 9 p.m., North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a concerned citizen about a westbound vehicle weaving in and out of its lane and into the oncoming traffic lane.

The vehicle was located on Highway 17, Commanda Township.  Police stopped the vehicle and, upon further investigation, the driver, Guylain MAYOTTE, age 51, Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, was charged with Care or Control Over 80 mgs., contrary to section 253(1)(b), and Driving While Ability Impaired, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on February 15, 2016.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is operating a motor vehicle while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
