Hwy 11 open (Temagami)

Temagami Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police advise of the following Road Advisory:

Location:  Hwy 11 Temagami OPEN between Hwy 64 and Hwy 65

Brief Description of Event:  OPP have concluded investigation and Hwy has been opened.

Three vehicle collision under investigation

On January 12, 2016 shortly before 10 a.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles on Highway 11, Temagami.  

A northbound Tractor Trailer Unit (TTU) lost control and crossed the centre line. An oncoming southbound automobile avoided the TTU by crossing the centre line and struck a northbound OPP cruiser head on. 

The Temagami Fire Department and The District of Nipissing Ambulance Service attended the scene. The police officer was transported by ambulance to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the automobile was treated by ambulance at the scene for minor injuries, and the driver of the TTU sustained no injuries. The vehicles carried no passengers.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) and The Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Officers (TEO) are assisting with this ongoing investigation.   

Highway 11 has been closed in both directions. The estimated duration of road advisory is unavailable at this time. Please do not call the OPP Provincial Communications Centres for updates or road condition information.

Vehicle in ditch leads to impaired charges

On January 8, 2016, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a single motor vehicle collision was reported to the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The vehicle was located in the ditch on the ramp leading to Highway 17 from Highway 11, City of North Bay.

The North Bay Fire Department and North Bay and District Ambulance also attended the scene.

The driver sustained no injuries.

Upon further investigation, the driver, Michael VON DOELER, 21, Corbeil, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle, section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);

  • Driving with More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, section 253(1)(b) CC

  • Driving While Under Suspension, section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on January 19, 2016.
