The following is a news release from the Ontario Provincial Police:

Traffic complaint leads to drug charges

MATTAWA - On Aug. 12, 2017 at 11:04 p.m. members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle being driven erratically through Mattawa. 

The vehicle was stopped on Main Street and as a result of the investigation the male driver Riley Sanscartier 20 of Mattawa Ontario was charged with the following;

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - Methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA).
  • Possession of a schedule II substance - cannabis marihuana under 3 kilograms contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA.
  • Traffick a schedule I substance -methamphetamine contrary to section 5(1) of the CDSA.
  • Traffick a schedule II substance - cannabis marihuana under 3 kilograms contrary to section 5(1) of the CDSA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Mattawa on Sept. 20, 2017.

Domestic assault

On Aug. 13, 2017 at 10:10 a.m. members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by a female who stated that she had just been assaulted by her boyfriend. 

OPP attended the female's location off Highway 63 near Thorne and as a result of the investigation a 28-year-old male from North Bay was arrested and charged for the following:

  • Assault - spousal contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC.
  • Unauthorized Possession of a weapon contrary to section 91(2) of the CC.
  • Fail to comply with a recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the CC.
  • Mischief - domestic contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.
  • Adult possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a probation order contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC.

The accused was arrested and held for bail. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Aug. 15, 2017.
