Impaired driver arrested

NORTH BAY – On April 14, 2016 at approximately 3 p.m., a member of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was dispatched to a traffic complaint on Highway 17, City of North Bay. Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the officer’s investigation, Julie LAVALLEE, 35 years of age from Sudbury, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, as per section 253(1)(b) contrary to the Criminal Code (CC).
  • Driving While Ability Impaired- Motor Vehicle (Alcohol), as per section 253(1)(a) (CC)

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on May 3, 2016 to answer to her charges.

Domestic dispute leads to charges

POWASSAN – On April 18, 2016 at approximately 3 a.m. members of the Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a male causing a disturbance in Powassan.

Police received a 9-1-1 call as a result of a male attending a residence and damaging a vehicle with a baseball bat. For that reason, a police investigation began. It was further revealed that this was of a domestic related event.

A 47-year-old male from South Himsworth Township was charged with the following:

  • Assault with a Weapon-2 counts, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Mischief Under $5,000-2 counts, contrary to the CCC
  • Criminal Harassment, contrary to the CCC
  • Driving with more than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to CCC
  • Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle, contrary to CCC
  • Careless Storage of Firearm-2 counts, contrary to CCC

The accused was held in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice North Bay. Names have not been released to protect the identity of the victim.

Transport drives over edge of ramp

NORTH BAY – On April 18, 2016, at approximately 11:30 a.m., North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was informed of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, City of North Bay.

A tractor trailer transporting non-hazardous material travelling westbound on Highway 17 took the southbound ramp onto Highway 11 when it went over the railing and down the steep embankment.

North Bay Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver from the vehicle.  The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by North Bay and District Ambulance Service.

The driver, a 70 year old male from Gatineau, Quebec, was charged with careless driving contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The ramp will be closed sometime today to remove the tractor trailer. The O.P.P. will distribute details and updates of the road advisory as information becomes available.
