On September 20, 2017, at 11:48 p.m., officers with the Mattawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit observed a vehicle traveling on Valois Drive in Mattawa.

Driver charged with drug trafficking

MATTAWA - On Sept. 20, 2017, at 11:48 p.m., officers with the Mattawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit observed a vehicle traveling on Valois Drive in Mattawa.   

Officers conducted a traffic stop on John Street. As a result of a police investigation, officers arrested the male driver of the vehicle. Police searched the vehicle incident to arrest and a located a large quantity of marijuana along with a small amount of cash. 

As a result of the investigation, William Blackstock, age 68, of West Nipissing, has been charged with

  •  Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Under 3kg, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and,
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was held bail court, today, at the Ontario Court of Justice (OCJ) in North Bay. He was released on a recognizance with a date to attend the OCJ on Oct. 3, in North Bay.
