WAKE UP/DRIVE SAFE
(North Bay, ON)
Driver fatigue (or drowsy driving) is a growing concern on Ontario highways.
The OPP would like to remind motorists traveling long distances to be alert and drive safe.
Fatigue is a general term commonly used to describe the experience of being “sleepy”, “tired”, or “exhausted”.

Driving while fatigued diminishes your control of your vehicle and if it leads to falling asleep while behind the wheel, you will lose total control.
Ontario statistics indicate fatigue as a factor in 35% of collisions.

Please prepare yourself before you venture out on that long trip. Get a good night’s sleep. Relax as you plan your trip. Put any stress out of your mind. As you drive, recognize the symptoms of drowsiness:
*Yawning;
*Slowed reactions;
*Heavy eyes and stiff joints;
*Day dreaming;
*Wandering over the centre line or off the road;
If you feel fatigue: STOP, REVIVE and STAY ALIVE.
Plan on stopping every 2 hours and take a break.
Have some caffeine if you wish and/or even take a micro nap before you venture out again.
This may safe your life and the lives of other motorists too.
