North Bay driver accused of obstruction, taking vehicle without permission near Guelph

Police say the driver provided a false name when stopped by police for speeding

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 7 at South Street in the Township of Centre Wellington near Guelph on January 5 around 2 p.m. 

The officer observed a black passenger van travelling southbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 50 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 100 km/h.

The OPP say the driver provided a false name and identified themselves as the owner of the motor vehicle. The driver was released at the scene and issued a summons. 

Further Investigation revealed the driver's true identity and confirmed that they were suspended from driving. Police also discovered that the accused did not have permission from the owner to be operating their vehicle.

As a result, Marie Sandy Morrow, 58 years old of North Bay has been charged with;

  • Obstruct peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Take motor vehicle without consent contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Personation with intent contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Drive while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Feb. 12, 2021.
