Male held in custody

MATTAWA – On September 13, 2015, at approximately 6:15 p.m., members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a family dispute in Papineau-Cameron Township where a male threatened a family member with a weapon.  Family members were able to escape the home unharmed and the male barricaded himself. 

The OPP utilized numerous resources including the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Crisis Negotiators, Crime Unit and Tactical and Rescue Unit (TRU) in the attempt to facilitate a peaceful surrender of the male.  At 12:40 a.m., the male surrendered to police where he was taken into custody..

A 35-year-old male from Papineau-Cameron Township was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon, section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Assault, section 266 CC;
  • Uttering Threats-Cause Death or Bodily Harm, section 264.1(1)(a) CC;
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, section 733.1(1) CC.

He remains in custody for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on September 14, 2015.

The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victims.

Two charged with impaired

MATTAWA – On September 12, 2015, at approximately 2:20 a.m., members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Highway 17, Papineau-Cameron Township, for a traffic violation.

Upon further investigation, the driver, Deborah CARR, age 58 of Sudbury, Ontario, was arrested and charged with Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood, section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on September 22, 2015.

On September 13, 2015, at approximately 2:45 a.m., members of the North Bay Detachment (OPP) on patrol stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic infraction. 

The vehicle was stopped and, upon further investigation, the driver, Brendan CHARTIER, age 29, of North Bay, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired - Motor Vehicle (Alcohol), section 253(1)(a) CC;
  • Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, section 253(1)(b) CC;
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, section 733.1(1) CC;
  • Mischief Under $5,000, section 430(4) CC.

He remains in custody and held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on September 14, 2015.
