TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES

On November 21, 2015, members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 63 in Phelps Township. At approximately 9:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a southbound vehicle that was observed driving at a high rate of speed. Police investigation and a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of more than 400 grams of cannabis marijuana and money.

The driver, Andre COTE, 42 years of age, from Redbridge, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance - Cannabis Marijuana - under 30grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the purpose of Trafficking - under 3 kg, contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  • Speeding contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused was held for bail and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay.
