Impaired charge

On March 4, 2016, at approximately 10 p.m., members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting RIDE (Reduced Impaired Driving Every Where) at Highway 17 and Twin Lake Road, City of North Bay

The officers were conducting sobriety checks on Highway 17 as well as on the adjacent snowmobile trail which runs parallel to the north side of Highway 17 in that location.

Police noticed two people on snow machines try to avoid the check point.  Police located the two drivers on the snow machines and, upon further investigation, Kevin HOELTKE, age 47, of Alden, New York, was arrested and charged with Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood , contrary to section 253(1)(b), of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on March 15, 2016.

It was also determined that the driver of the second snow machine had consumed alcohol. A roadside breath test was administered, and the driver registered a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) in the “Warn Range”.

As a result of the investigation, James TOWER, age 51, of Cheektowaga, New York, was issued an immediate roadside driver’s licence suspension for three days.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is operating a motor vehicle while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.

Ice fishing shacks broken into

LAKE NIPISSING – North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified of several ice fishing shacks that were broken into during the evening of March 4 to the morning of March 5, 2016, on Lake Nipissing near Sunset Point.

Items reported stolen are a red Eskimo auger, Mr. Buddy propane heater and lantern.

The culprit(s) gained entry by breaking the locks on the doors.
