On February 8, 2017 at 1:42 p.m. the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police, (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Highway 11 near Nova Beaucage Road in the North Bay area.

Impaired charges laid in traffic complaint

 

NORTH BAY – On Feb. 11, 2017 at 7:47 a.m. the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a traffic complaint on Highway (Hwy) 63 in Poitras Township. The involved vehicle was said to be broken down on the shoulder of the road and that the driver was impaired. Officers attended the scene and as a result of the investigation James Michael Belland 34, of Kipawa Quebec was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Over 80 contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA).

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is set to attend the North Bay Court of Justice on Mar. 7, 2017.

The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. We rely on the public to report crime and impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently.  If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it.

OPP traffic stop leads to drug seizure

NORTH BAY – On Feb. 8, 2017 at 1:42 p.m. the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police, (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Highway 11 near Nova Beaucage Road in the North Bay area.

The investigation revealed that the two occupants of the vehicle were in possession of methamphetamine and hydromorph tablets. The approximate value of the seized drugs is $20,000.

A male party, Adam Murray 33, of North Bay is charged with:

  • Two counts - Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking– Other Drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). 
  • Drive vehicle – no valid plate contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Drive vehicle while suspended contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA

A female party, Amanda Rick 32, also from North Bay is charged with:

  • Two counts - Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking– Other Drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). 

The accused parties were released from police custody and are to appear in the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on Apr. 25, 2017.
