Hikers saved by sirens

Police attended the scene and continued to activate the sirens of the cruiser until the hikers could follow the sound out of the bush.

News Release: (NORTH BAY, ON) – On October 12, at approximately 4:15 p.m., members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of two hikers lost on the trails at Duchesnay Falls, North Bay.

North Bay OPP and Anishnabek Police Service attended the scene to locate the hikers.  Both hikers were from Sturgeon Falls and had come to North Bay to enjoy the trails. They became disoriented, after leaving the trail, and were afraid that they would not make it out of the bush before dark. The hikers then called police for assistance.

Police attended the scene and continued to activate the sirens of the cruiser until the hikers could follow the sound out of the bush.

During the fall and winter seasons, trails may become unfamiliar with the environmental changes of the leaves and snow.

Some basic outdoor survival items include a compass, map, lighter, water, food, cell phone and weather appropriate gear. Other useful tips for hikers include informing family or friends about where you are going and what time you are expected back.
