Body recovered from Sturgeon River

OPP recovered the body of a man from the Sturgeon River Sunday.

At approximately 3:10 p.m. members of the OPP North Bay Detachment Marine Unit, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Unmanned Aerial System and Aviation Services, as well as the West Nipissing Police Service, West Nipissing Fire Service, and Emergency Medical Services responded to a possible drowning on the Sturgeon River in West Nipissing.

A local man, 57, was seen sitting on a chair on a wooden raft when the chair broke and the male fell into the river.

On July 2, at approximately 2 p.m. the OPP recovered a body in the river possibly the same male.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service.

The name of the deceased subject is not being released at this time pending the notification of the next of kin.
