One man dead, two in critical condition after violent kidnapping in Hamilton area

HAMILTON — One man is dead and two are in life-threatening condition after a violent kidnapping in the Hamilton area, police said Thursday.

Hamilton police said a family residence in Mount Hope, Ont., was broken into before 3 a.m., on Thursday and two adult sons were shot while their 63-year-old father was kidnapped.

One injured son died later in hospital while the father was found hours later with life-threatening injuries, police said.

"It's disturbing," Const. Indy Bharaj told reporters. "This isn't something that Hamilton should ever get used to."

Police said officers were called to the home for reports of a shooting and found the two sons, both in their 20s, with life-threatening injuries.

One son died in hospital while the other son had to undergo surgery, police said.

Their father was forced into a black SUV and taken from the house in his pyjamas, police said.

Hours later, police said they found the abducted man near a lift bridge with life-threatening injuries. He was also taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said.

"Our understanding is that there were multiple people involved. We don't have descriptors at this time," said Bharaj, who added that police believe it was a targeted attack.

Investigators said there would be a large police presence in the areas of both crime scenes and they are asking the public to stay away.
